Life of Our Planet Challenge: Food Production
The Human Population, in the year 2018, is estimated to reach 7.6 Billion People; and they all have to eat. Our Food Production, whether it’s plant, animal, or fish; is subsequently challenged to keep pace with the burgeoning population growth. While food technologies are advancing, many argue, it won’t be enough to meet future demand. Destruction of vital lands and waterways, due to urban growth and poor land management; has contributed to reductions is arable lands. Rising temperatures, due to cyclical, and acute climate changes, is expanding deserts, melting glaciers, flooding low lying areas; where many food types are grown or cultivated. Managing our population growth, in concert with strengthening our food production capabilities, are two very real challengers for Humankind. The scarcity of food resources, is always a cause of unrest, conflict, and war.
